About the artist.
Lewis Julian Tillman III
Artist / Photographer / Filmmaker
"Visuals are memory in motion—raw, imperfect, honest. I shoot to feel, to reveal rhythm in real life, and to capture the quiet moments between noise. Whether behind a lens or on stage, I’m telling stories that live beyond the frame."
Lewis Julian is a visionary Director of Photography with a unique background that bridges music, visual storytelling, and documentary film. With over four years of hands-on experience in cinematography, directing, and post-production, Tillman has developed a distinct voice behind the camera—one that blends the raw authenticity of documentary work with the stylized edge of contemporary music visuals.
A graduate of Wake Forest University & Documentary Film Program, Julian has shot and edited hundreds of projects across genres, from athletic highlight reels for Wake Forest, to dynamic audiovisual content as the artist “blckfriend” under Babygrande Records/Sony ATV, amassing over 100k followers on socials.
His work has been showcased nationwide, including performances at SXSW and other major festivals, and he brings a deep understanding of narrative, motion, and audience engagement to every frame.
Julian’s technical toolkit includes Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, and Avid ProTools, and his creative instinct is backed by years in both agency and production environments, including ICM Partners and Creative Artists Agency.
Whether it’s a tour doc, branded short, or content creation, he brings clarity of vision and collaborative energy to every set. He is currently based in New York City and is open to freelance, touring, and full-scale production opportunities.
